the goat's song

The acting studio O Canto do Bode is dedicated to the training, research, and creation of actors and actresses. Its activities focus on developing acting practices and studies, as well as carrying out artistic projects.
The name chosen for the studio refers to the origin of tragedy, traditionally associated with rituals honoring Dionysus - the god of grapes, wine, joy, and transformation. Under the influence of the drink, participants in Dionysian processions sang and danced dressed as goats, the animal into which the god often metamorphosed. From the song of these "goat-men" the word tragedy was born: tragos, "goat," and oidia, "ode," "song." The song of the goat represents the manifestation of ecstasy (the leaving of oneself) and enthusiasm (unification with the god) in those who expand the notions of "self" and "reality" beyond the limits of the known.
The studies and artistic projects carried out in the studio are based on the premise that the actor and actress are the privileged elements of theatrical creation. Therefore, a space for systematic, continuous, and lasting work, free from the pressures present in traditional teaching and production structures, becomes indispensable for deepening questions about acting and its effects on stage. The legacies of Stanislavski, Grotowski, and Peter Brook, updated by assumptions of contemporary thought, are allies in this complex challenge.
